Free English grammar checker

Write in proper English is not always easy, especially for those who have a basic knowledge of the language and has no opportunity to exercise it constantly. The grammatical and spelling errors are always in ambush!

Searching for free tools to help me to try to reduce my grammatical errors, I found an interesting project: LanguageTool. LanguageTool is an open-source software able to check grammar errors for English, French, German, Polish and more that 20 other languages. In addition to being an open-source project, is also interesting because it can be used like a LibreOffice, OpenOffice and Firefox extension, or like a stand-alone application for desktop. The page of the project also provide a web interface to test it.

Surely this is not the ultimate tool able to find all the grammatical errors in a text but anyone can contribute to its improvement through the creation of new rules. The creation of new rules is possible through an on-line editor that involves inserting the phrase containing the error that was not found by the software and the correct one. The editor in this way will generate automatically the pattern corresponding to the error to be sent to developers for its inclusion in the system.
